Bristol Scientific Computing (BriSC)
BriSC brings together experts from across the University of Bristol whose teaching and research focus on applying the latest computational techniques to key scientific problems, such as changes in the earth’s atmosphere, the reactions of molecules or how galaxies are formed. We rely on Bristol’s unique strengths and facilities as a world-class centre for supercomputing (institute level and Isambard national facilities), data science and data-intensive research.
Scientific computing is an interdisciplinary field that uses computer science, data science and digital technology to solve problems across a wide range of subject areas, including maths, engineering, biology, physics, chemistry, geography and earth sciences.
Study with us
We offer a range of different undergraduate degree programmes within the Schools of Chemistry and Physics:
- Physics with Computing (BSc, MSci)
- Physics with Computing with Industrial Experience (MSci)
- Chemistry with Computing (BSc, MSci)
We also offer a 1-year postgraduate taught masters (MSc) suitable for Physical or Life Science graduates:
All programmes offered do not require students to have any prior knowledge of coding/programming but do also cater to students who have some experience and wish to build their skills, putting this into practice in a scientific context.
